LIAM (in development)
What happens when you set out in search of a new name, but discover a body instead?
In the fall of 2014, LIAM's protagonist came out publicly as trans and changed their name. Almost immediately thereafter, they were sexually assaulted by a man of the same name. They lost their new name before it was even theirs. They lost their celebration. They lost their tears. They lost their silliness.
Over 10 years later, they have now been thrust into the embodiment of four essential selves: Lia, Liam, Liam and Dancing as they trace through grief, memory and silliness on a trial-by-fire journey home to the self.
Part poetry cafe, part tattoo appointment and part philosophical chat on a long highway drive, LIAM is a hybrid poetry-performance work that, with vulnerability and care, invites us to be with our suffering.
